For years Dandylion founder Carolyn and her 13 year old Cockapoo, Mocha, faced the challenge of Mocha’s chronic skin irritations & incessant paw-biting, leading to raw, bleeding paws. Despite countless vet visits, and diet changes, Mocha’s itching persisted.
In search of answers, Carolyn consulted a veterinary dermatologist who shared something surprising: regular bathing can be one of the most effective ways to remove the irritants and allergens that contribute to itchy skin. The problem isn’t frequent washing — it’s what you wash with. Gentle, non-irritating formulas are key.
That insight sent Carolyn down a new path. As someone with years of experience in clean beauty, she began looking closely at the ingredients in dog grooming products — and what she found was alarming. Many formulas were packed with harsh sulfates, drying alcohols, and heavy fragrances that could further aggravate sensitive skin. Even more concerning, ingredient transparency was often lacking entirely — a stark contrast to the standards expected in human skincare.
